Motorola, the renowned manufacturer of your favorite flip phone from twenty years ago, is on the verge of launching its seventh generation of foldable smartphones. The company has announced an event scheduled for later this month, where it will unveil its new range of folding smartphones. The upcoming series of Razrs is expected to boast significant performance enhancements, improved display brightness both inside and out, and superior camera capabilities. Further details will be revealed when Motorola officially introduces the device on April 24.

Motorola has hinted at the presence of something “iconic” in its latest teaser, although the video teaser itself is quite brief, lasting only about ten seconds. It features levitating Razr devices opening and closing, initially showing two devices that separate into three before consolidating back into two. Based on this teaser, pundits and bloggers speculate that there will be three Razr models available, which differs from the company’s previous practice of launching two folding phones at a time. Last year, Motorola released the standard Razr and the Razr Plus. The current speculation suggests that this year, there might be a third “super-powered” variant or a basic foldable option priced alongside Motorola’s budget offerings, such as the Moto G series.

9to5Google observed that at one point, the floating Razr phone spells out “AI,” likely referring to Moto AI, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy AI. The expected features of Moto AI include abilities like notification summaries and automatic transcriptions, as well as some image editing capabilities. Similar to other major phone manufacturers, Motorola is making big promises about its AI features, stating that its Large Language Models (LLMs) will “take actions” on behalf of the user, such as ordering coffee from a nearby shop. This would be an impressive feat, considering the challenges Apple has faced and the more limited features Google has offered.

Other rumors include speculation about whether the Razrs will utilize a MediaTek Dimensity chip or if the “pro” or “plus” variant will adopt the Snapdragon 8 Elite to integrate AI with the rest of its Android peers. Whatever the plan, most of the details will be revealed later this month.
