After saving up for a new graphics card, you finally get your hands on a shiny new 9000 series RDNA 4 GPU, expecting a seamless gaming experience with fast frame rates and minimal latency. However, the reality might be different, especially if you’re looking to play popular titles like Diablo IV and Silent Hill 2, which don’t support AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR 4) technology. Moreover, if you own an older AMD card, there’s no guarantee that FSR 4 will be available for your hardware anytime soon.

Luckily, as reported by PCWorld, a solution exists for 9000 series card owners. A modder named HighYield has created a free app called OptiScaler, which enables FSR 4 on games that support Nvidia’s DLSS 2 or Intel’s XeSS upscaling software. The app also offers frame generation and anti-latency support, features that you would expect from a high-end graphics card, especially after spending $600 or more on a Radeon 9070 XT card.

Currently, FSR 4 is exclusive to 9000-series owners, with only 44 games supporting the technology, compared to over 100 titles with Nvidia DLSS 4 support. This leaves many fans of popular games like Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor without access to FSR 4.

If you visit HighYield’s X account, you can find a detailed walkthrough of setting up the OptiScaler app to enable FSR 4 on games like Cyberpunk 2077. To use OptiScaler, you’ll need a Radeon RX 9070 or 9070 XT card and DirectX 12 installed. In the demo video, HighYield shows off Cyberpunk 2077 running at 1440p with 60 frames per second and full path tracing. Other YouTube videos have also started appearing, demonstrating similar results. So, for now, OptiScaler can help fill the gap while AMD works to expand FSR 4 support to more games.

However, it’s essential to note that this workaround is not officially approved by AMD, as it’s a mod. This means that the fix might not work perfectly at all times, and there’s a possibility that AMD could disable the app as FSR 4 becomes more widely available.
