Allard’s official title is Vice President of Amazon’s ZeroOne, a special projects team focused on inventing breakthrough consumer product categories, according to an Amazon job listing.

ZeroOne’s Objectives and Projects

Although the specifics of ZeroOne’s projects remain somewhat mysterious, CNBC discovered another job listing for a "Senior Applied Scientist" role that indicates the team will be working on conceiving, designing, and marketing computer vision techniques for a new smart-home product. Computer vision refers to technologies that enable computer systems to "understand" images and video, such as the ability of a Ring Video Doorbell to detect packages on doorsteps.

J Allard’s Background and Experience

Allard’s involvement in the creation of the Microsoft Zune might raise some eyebrows, given the device’s limited success compared to the iPod. Nevertheless, Allard has led several interesting projects at Microsoft, including the Microsoft Kin and the Courier, a book-style tablet that was later reimagined as the Surface Neo. Notably, Allard co-created the original Xbox, which is arguably his most significant achievement at the company.

ZeroOne’s Position within Amazon
