Benefits of the EU Data Boundary

With the EU Data Boundary now in place, our European commercial and public sector customers can store and process their customer data, as well as pseudonymized personal data, for Microsoft’s core cloud services. These services include Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and most Azure services. Additionally, Microsoft will store professional services data from technical support interactions for the core cloud services within the EU and EFTA regions.

The EU Data Boundary represents the culmination of a significant, multi-year engineering effort across hundreds of Microsoft product teams and thousands of developers worldwide. Phased Implementation of the EU Data Boundary

The EU Data Boundary has been delivered to our customers in three phases:

1. Phase 1: Launched in January 2023, enabling the storage and processing of customer data for core services, including most of the Microsoft Cloud suite of online services.
2. Phase 2: Launched in January 2024, expanding the scope of the EU Data Boundary to include pseudonymized personal data.
3. Phase 3: Completed in February 2025, ensuring that professional services data provided by customers and generated by Microsoft during technical support interactions is stored within the EU and EFTA regions.
