According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, approximately 20-30% of the code within the company’s repositories is generated by artificial intelligence, as he revealed during a conversation with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the LlamaCon conference on Tuesday.

This estimate was provided in response to a question from Zuckerberg, who inquired about the current proportion of Microsoft’s code that is AI-generated. Nadella noted that the company has observed varying degrees of success with AI-generated code across different programming languages, with more notable progress in Python and less in C++.

Previously, Microsoft CTO Kevin Scott had expressed his expectation that 95% of all code will be generated by AI by the year 2030.

When Nadella posed the same question to Zuckerberg, the Meta CEO responded that he was unsure of the exact proportion of Meta’s code that is being generated by AI.

During Google’s earnings call the previous week, CEO Sundar Pichai stated that AI is currently generating over 30% of the company’s new code. However, it is essential to note that the methodology used by Microsoft and Google to determine what constitutes AI-generated code is unclear, so these figures should be interpreted with caution.
