Introducing two innovative reasoning agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot.
Today, we are excited to announce the launch of two pioneering reasoning agents for the workplace: Researcher and Analyst. These agents analyze vast amounts of information, leveraging secure and compliant access to your work data, including emails, meetings, files, chats, and more, as well as the web, to provide expert-level insights on demand.
Researcher is designed to assist with complex, multi-step research tasks at work, delivering high-quality insights with unparalleled accuracy. By combining OpenAI’s advanced research model with Microsoft 365 Copilot’s sophisticated orchestration and search capabilities, Researcher enables you to build a comprehensive go-to-market strategy based on your work data and broader competitive data from the web. You can also use Researcher to identify opportunities for a new product based on emerging trends and internal data or create a detailed quarterly report for a client review, complete with the latest market analysis. Furthermore, Researcher can integrate third-party data via connectors, enhancing its capabilities and providing more comprehensive insights by incorporating data from external sources such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Confluence, and more, directly into Microsoft 365 Copilot. Additionally, it can even pull in data through other agents, such as Sales Chat.

Analyst functions like a skilled data scientist, enabling you to transition from raw data to insights in a matter of minutes. Built on OpenAI’s o3-mini reasoning model and optimized for advanced data analysis in the workplace, Analyst utilizes chain-of-thought reasoning to progress through problems iteratively, taking as many steps as necessary to refine its reasoning and provide high-quality answers that mirror human analytical thinking. It can run Python to tackle complex data queries, and you can view the code it’s running in real-time and verify its work. For instance, you can use Analyst to transform raw data scattered across multiple spreadsheets into a demand forecast for a new product, a visualization of customer purchasing patterns, or a revenue projection.

Researcher and Analyst will begin rolling out to customers with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license in April as part of a new “Frontier” program, which provides customers with early access to innovative Copilot features while they are still in development.

Deep Reasoning and Agent Flows in Microsoft Copilot Studio
We are also introducing deep reasoning and agent flows in Microsoft Copilot Studio, a comprehensive platform for creating, managing, and deploying agents tailored to your unique business needs. Organizations can integrate deep reasoning into their agents to execute complex and multi-faceted business processes, while also using flows to automate processes quickly and predictably. Additionally, new capabilities that enable the creation of autonomous agents in Copilot Studio are now generally available. These agents can act independently, initiate events, and automate complex business tasks.
IT teams can confidently adopt these innovations using the Copilot Control System, which enables intelligent grounding on enterprise data while respecting organizational controls and empowers IT to govern access and usage of Copilot and agents.
