iPhone Bug Automatically Changes "Racist" to "Trump" in Dictation Feature

A strange glitch has been discovered in iPhones, where the built-in dictation feature in iOS changes the word "racist" to "Trump" before reverting back to the original word. This issue was first noticed by users on TikTok and occurs when using voice-to-text in Apple apps such as Messages.

When a user speaks the word "racist," the iOS briefly transcribes it as "Trump" before correcting it to the intended word. The reason behind this behavior is unclear, and it has been successfully replicated by Engadget, as shown in the GIF below.

Apple’s Response

Apple has attributed the issue to "phonetic overlap between the two words," despite the fact that "racist" and "Trump" do not sound similar. This explanation also fails to clarify why "racist" (with a lowercase "r") would transcribe as "Trump" (seemingly referencing the current president) rather than "trump" (the noun). An AI expert who previously worked on Siri has suggested that it could be a "serious prank" by an Apple employee.

Apple’s Investment in AI Servers

The timing of this bug’s discovery is particularly embarrassing for Apple, as the company announced plans to invest $500 billion in manufacturing facilities for AI servers in the US over the next four years. This investment, which was largely already planned, follows a meeting between Apple CEO Tim Cook and President Donald Trump at the White House last week. Apple has not responded to a request for comment on the matter.
