Google is planning to expand its messaging service (Google Messages) by introducing a convenient WhatsApp integration within it.

Google Messages is quite convenient compared to other messaging apps to send and receive text messages, photos, videos, & voice messages, and it is available on Android, Wear OS, and as a web app. Recently, Samsung ditched its stock messaging app in favor of Google Messages for its Galaxy smartphones.

WhatsApp Video Call Shortcut Coming to Google Messages Chat Screen

A report from Android Authority revealed that Google Messages might soon allow users to initiate WhatsApp video calls directly from the application. Currently, users can initiate Google Meet video calls, but the service could prefer WhatsApp in the future.

Google acknowledged how the application boasts integration with other software, particularly other apps built by it; for instance, by tapping on the icon placed at the top right of a chat screen to start a video call, and instantly the app will pass the ball to Google Meet to manage the operation. Noticeably, all users may not prefer Google’s video-calling apps, and in case ‘Meet’ is not installed on the device, then the operation would lose much of its convenience.

Now to deal with this scene, Google is planning to implement in Google Messages a convenient integration with WhatsApp. The developer found evidence of this new integration in Google Messages v20250131 and managed to activate the feature. It remains to see exactly how this new interaction will function and whether it will result in an efficient step.
