It has not taken long for a new champion to emerge. Less than a year has passed since Inside Out 2 surpassed Frozen 2 to claim the top spot on the list of highest-grossing animated movies of all time, ultimately becoming the highest-grossing movie of 2024 worldwide, with Deadpool & Wolverine making a notable attempt to challenge it. Although the top movie of 2025 has yet to be determined, a new leader has emerged on the animated list: China’s Ne Zha 2, which has accumulated $1.7 billion in box office sales to date.

According to Deadline, Ne Zha 2 is rapidly climbing the all-time highest-grossing list and currently holds the eighth position, while Inside Out 2 has been pushed to ninth. However, it will be challenging for any film to surpass the James Cameron quartet, which currently occupies the top four spots.

The trade publication also notes that Ne Zha 2 is the first non-Hollywood film to cross the $1 billion mark. For those interested in learning more, the AMC Theaters website provides a synopsis of the film: “Following the heavenly lightning, Ne Zha and Ao Bing, now Spirits, must find a way to survive. Taiyi’s plan to restore their mortal bodies using the Seven-colored Precious Lotus is underway, but numerous obstacles arise during the process. The fate of Ne Zha and Ao Bing hangs in the balance.”
