Daisy Ridley on the Upcoming Star Wars Movie

When Daisy Ridley picks up her yellow lightsaber again, fans will inevitably ask about Rey. Any movie she stars in, regardless of the role, will be scrutinized for its connection to the beloved character. As she promotes her new film, Cleaner, a movie where she plays a window cleaner with a secret past, Ridley is being asked about the Star Wars movie she’s working on.

The Latest Star Wars Movie

First announced in 2023, the Star Wars movie is set after The Rise of Skywalker and will see Ridley reprise her role as Rey. She’ll be working to create a new Jedi order. Director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is at the helm, and the script has been written by several writers, including George Nolfi (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Adjustment Bureau, Ocean’s 12, and Elevation).

Ridley’s Thoughts on the Script

Speaking to ComicBook, Ridley had nothing but praise for Nolfi, despite not having read the latest script. "I have not read the latest script, but I know what’s happening, and I know the story, and I think what feels really good is that George is a phenomenal writer," she said. "I think we’re making sure that this story is the best way, this script is the best way to tell the story, and I think it will be worthwhile for everyone watching it, and I am very excited, yeah."

Production Updates

Ridley revealed that she’s not yet at production on the Star Wars movie, but the script is being written and she’s excited about the project. When asked about her involvement behind the scenes, she said, "I don’t know that I’d be a producer on it, but I certainly have been very involved. I’m involved in, well, not very involved, but I’m involved in as much as I know what’s going on, I know the story, I know what’s going on with the script, so I’m aware of all that."

Ridley’s Excitement

Collider took a slightly different spin with Ridley, asking about her level of involvement with the film. Ridley was enthusiastic about the project, saying, "I’m much more cognizant of it now. So in that way, I’m looking forward to turning up, really knowing the ins and outs of what the journey has been, and we’re arriving at the absolute best place to tell this particular story."

The Future of Star Wars

The next Star Wars movie to hit theaters will be The Mandalorian and Grogu in summer 2026. The future of the franchise is unclear, with no word on what’s next after that. Will it be Rey, the movie Ridley is working on, or something else entirely?
