Following the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3 in 2023, which continues to make waves, Hasbro has expressed interest in collaborating with major game studios to adapt its properties. It appears that the company has found a new partner in Saber Interactive, the developer behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II.
During a recent earnings call, Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks announced that the two companies are joining forces on “an all-new video game partnership,” which promises to deliver “high-octane single-player action and amazing multiplayer” utilizing Saber’s Swarm tech. This upcoming AAA title, based on one of Hasbro’s flagship IPs, is expected to be a hit. The news is noteworthy for several reasons: Saber has multiple subsidiaries, including one working on an Avatar game, but Cocks specifically mentioned the St. Petersburg team that led the development of Space Marine II. Given the immense popularity of Space Marine II, one of the most successful Warhammer 40K video games to date, it’s clear why this team was chosen for the project.
The question on everyone’s mind is which “tentpole” Hasbro property this new game will be based on. One possibility is Transformers, especially since developer Splash Damage canceled Transformers: Reactivate, a co-op shooter that would have been the franchise’s first major, non-tie-in game in a while. Alternatively, it could be G.I. Joe, which is making a comeback to theaters as part of the Transformers universe, or Magic: The Gathering, which has recently received a significant expanded media push, including a Netflix series and a live-action movie. Another possibility is Dungeons & Dragons, given that Saber’s involvement in a new D&D game would generate significant buzz, especially after the success of Baldur’s Gate 3 and the upcoming demise of Dark Alliance, a co-op action-RPG that goes offline on Monday.
With several potential candidates, the possibilities are endless. Share your predictions or hopes in the comments section below.
