The Android and iOS apps for Google’s NotebookLM are slated to launch on May 20, as indicated by app store listings. The apps are currently available for preorder, allowing users to reserve their copy before the official release.

NotebookLM, which was initially introduced in 2023, has been accessible solely through desktop until now. Google is now expanding the service to mobile devices, enabling users to access its features on-the-go. This AI-based note-taking and research assistant aims to simplify complex information through smart summaries and the ability to ask questions about various materials.

The research assistant offers a range of features, including the generation of AI-powered podcasts, known as Audio Overviews, which facilitate easier comprehension of complex topics. These features are designed to cater to the needs of students, professionals, and researchers, helping them better understand and engage with complex information.

Based on the screenshots provided in the app listings, the dedicated mobile apps will enable users to create new notebooks, access existing ones, upload new sources from their devices, and view previously uploaded materials within each notebook. Additionally, users will be able to listen to their generated Audio Overviews while on-the-go, enhancing their mobile experience.

The apps will also be available on iPads and tablets, providing users with a larger screen to multitask and engage with the content more efficiently.

Users can choose to preorder the app on the App Store or pre-register for it on Google Play. By doing so, the app will be automatically downloaded onto their device on the scheduled release date, May 20.

Given the expected launch date coincides with the first day of Google I/O, it is likely that the company will share more information about the apps during the annual conference, which is scheduled to take place in a few weeks.
