Google Unveils Gemini 2.5, its Latest AI Upgrade
Google is continuing to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence with its latest release, Gemini 2.5, just a few months after the introduction of Gemini 2.0. This new upgrade boasts enhanced capabilities, particularly in coding, mathematics, and science, as evidenced by its strong performance on LMArena.
The first model in the Gemini 2.5 series is the Gemini 2.5 Pro Experimental. This thinking model is designed to provide more nuanced responses, grounded in reasoning, analysis, and context, setting it apart from traditional classification- and prediction-driven models. This approach differs from the one taken with the Gemini 2.0 series, which initially focused on the more efficient and cost-effective Flash version.
According to a blog post by Koray Kavukcuoglu, CTO of Google DeepMind, “With Gemini 2.5, we’ve achieved a new level of performance by combining a significantly enhanced base model with improved post-training. Going forward, we’re building these thinking capabilities directly into all of our models, so they can handle more complex problems and support even more capable, context-aware agents.”
Google had recently begun integrating Gemini 2.0 into its services, utilizing it to power the newly introduced AI Mode in search and Deep Research for handling more complex queries. With the launch of Gemini 2.5, the company is expected to release further updates on the implementation of this latest version. Gemini 2.5 Pro Experimental is currently available in Google AI Studio, and Gemini Advanced members can access it directly through the Gemini app.
