Google I/O is the annual event where we get to learn about the numerous significant features and updates coming to the company’s ecosystem, particularly on the Android front. This year, the company is taking a different approach. Just before I/O, it will offer an in-depth look at the future of Android through a special edition of The Android Show.

This marks the first time Google has hosted such a showcase prior to I/O. The company notes that people have been requesting more ways to learn about the evolving Android experience, and giving the ecosystem its own pre-event spotlight is one way to address this demand.

Google mentions that it has “a multitude of new things to share” regarding Android, which is why it’s launching this edition of The Android Show (a series that the company has been running for developers on YouTube). The presentation will feature Android Ecosystem president Sameer Samat. Android will still be a key focus at I/O, where Google promises to unveil “even more special announcements and surprises.” Multiple Android keynotes are scheduled for the event.

The Android Show: I/O Edition is set to air on May 13 at 1PM ET. Google I/O will take place a week later, starting on May 20. As always, we will provide you with all the important news and updates from the event right here on Engadget.
