Google is introducing a new feature for Gemini’s Canvas, a free interactive workspace within the AI chatbot’s app, designed for students and employees who need to create presentations. With this update, Gemini can now generate slides based on a simple prompt, or users can upload files such as documents, spreadsheets, and research papers to create a presentation from a specific source. If the source is not crucial, users can provide a prompt like “Create a presentation on [a specific topic]” and Gemini will generate the content. However, if the source is essential, users can upload the file first and then ask Gemini to create the presentation.
The resulting presentation decks come with a pre-applied theme and images, along with the text. Users can export these decks directly from the Gemini app to Google Slides, where they can further edit and refine the content as needed, or collaborate with teammates. This capability is being rolled out to both personal and Workspace accounts.
Google launched Canvas in March as a platform for users to share their writing or code with Gemini for editing purposes. When users input code or prompts for projects like apps, web pages, and infographics, Canvas provides a visual representation of their design, making it easier to work on and refine their ideas.
