Google’s latest initiative to introduce earthquake alerts on Wear OS-powered smartwatches is expected to greatly benefit Samsung Galaxy watch users as well.
According to the official update release notes for the June 2025 Google Play Services, version v25.21, published on Google’s page, the company is working on expanding earthquake alerts to Wear OS-based wearables, including Samsung Galaxy watches running the same software version.
Specifically, the note explains that users will receive alerts on their Wear OS watches when earthquake shaking is imminent. The earthquake alert feature is being rolled out with the latest version of Google Play Services.
In simpler terms, individuals will receive early warnings on their Wear OS smartwatches when shaking is expected from an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.5 or higher.
The earthquake alert system operates on two key points: “Be Aware Alert” and “Take Action Alert”. The former provides people with early warnings to prepare for weak or light shaking, while the latter allows users to take necessary actions as suggested when moderate or extreme shaking is expected, ensuring user safety.
Although Google has not provided an official confirmation on the exact rollout timeline for the earthquake alert feature, it is possible that the company may release it as a key function of Wear OS 6 by the end of this year.
This feature is likely to be highly beneficial for watch owners, as they will receive early warnings when shaking is expected. The feature will soon be available for Samsung Galaxy Watches running Wear OS.
