Users of Samsung Galaxy smartwatches, be patient, as you can expect to receive Live updates via the Now Bar, likely with the release of One UI 8.5 Watch next year.
Google has recently wrapped up its I/O 2025 event, where it unveiled plans to introduce the Live Updates feature to all Wear OS-based wearables by late 2026. As a result, Galaxy Watches running on Wear OS will also be able to receive these Live Updates.
Presently, Samsung is preparing to launch its next major OS update for smartwatches, One UI 8 Watch, which is rumored to arrive with the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 series. However, according to Google’s announcement, the Live Updates feature will not be available until late 2026, which means it will not be included in One UI 8 Watch, set to release this year.
Samsung is expected to introduce One UI 8.5 Watch and One UI 9 Watch in 2026, which could potentially bring Live Updates to Galaxy Watches with these upcoming OS versions. It has been reported that One UI 8 Watch will feature the Now Bar feature, which currently only displays live notification updates from Samsung’s stock apps and a few Google apps.
At present, Live Updates are limited to a few app types, including cab hailing, ride sharing, food delivery, package delivery, and navigation apps. However, it is anticipated that Google may expand compatibility to include more app types in the future.
