The upcoming Galaxy S26 series from Samsung, scheduled for release in early 2026, is expected to feature a variable aperture on the Ultra variant.

Following the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, which includes three models, and the impending release of the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung is now looking forward to the debut of the Galaxy S26 series. The Galaxy S26 series will comprise three models: the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra.

There were previous rumors that the Galaxy S26 Ultra might be equipped with a 200MP periscope telephoto camera featuring a 1/1.5-inch type sensor. However, according to a recent report from the reputable tipster Ice Universe, Samsung plans to introduce variable aperture technology to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

As reported, this feature will be exclusive to the primary rear camera. Samsung initially introduced dual-aperture technology with the Galaxy S9 and S9+, allowing for a switch between F1.5 and F2.4 apertures depending on the scene. The F1.5 aperture setting enables more light to enter the camera sensor, reducing noise but resulting in a narrower field of view.

Samsung continued to feature dual-aperture technology until the Galaxy S10 series and now appears to be reviving variable apertures with the Galaxy S26 series. However, it is currently unclear whether this will be a true variable aperture, similar to the one found on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, or a dual-aperture system like the one on the Galaxy S9. The development of this feature will be interesting to follow.
