It appears that Fujifilm is developing a camera that combines the strengths of its medium-format cameras, such as the GFX 100S II, with the popular X100 series, as hinted at in a new teaser video spotted by Digital Camera World.
The video, titled “X Summit in Prague is going to be special, Fujifilm fam🇨🇿”, shows a pair of hands producing an XV100 VI and GFX 100S II out of thin air, bringing them together before cutting to the silhouette of the new camera the company presumably plans to announce. This suggests that Fujifilm aims to create a camera that incorporates the best features of its compact, fixed-lens X100 series while leveraging the benefits of a medium-format sensor.
Although the brief clip in the video makes it difficult to determine the exact design of the new camera, it appears to be larger (and more square) than the X100 VI, with a smaller lens than typically found on a camera in Fujifilm’s GFX 100S II series. This could be great news for those looking to upgrade their photography skills after being introduced to the X100 series.
Fujifilm initially struck gold with the X100 V, which gained popularity on social media due to its size, design, and ability to digitally mimic multiple types of analog film. The X100 VI was released in 2024, building on this popularity by adding features like in-body stabilization and a lower native ISO. It’s a fantastic camera in its own right.
We will have to wait until Fujifilm’s X Summit on March 20 to see if this new camera has the potential to achieve the same level of crossover appeal, but the company’s history suggests it is on the right track.
