Universal Studios Hollywood is set to introduce a new thrill ride, which will be the park’s first major rollercoaster inspired by The Fast and the Furious franchise, redefining the concept of a family ride. Note that height requirements for the ride have not been announced yet, so kids will have to wait for that information.
The West Coast’s passion for adrenaline-fueled car races and theme parks comes together in Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift—Universal’s fastest “drifting” coaster, which boasts a speed of 72 MPH. The ride is scheduled to open next year, and construction is already underway, with the tracks being built into the hillside of the upper lot of Universal Studios Hollywood.
The coaster will feature a 360-degree rotation on each ride vehicle, allowing the cars to reach 72 MPH on 4,100 feet of outdoor track, with the real streets of LA from the films serving as the backdrop. The cinematic experience aims to capture the car culture that inspired the films, making riders feel like part of the crew led by Vin Diesel and co-starring Michelle Rodriguez, the late Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese, Ludacris, Sung Kang, John Cena, and more.
The video below showcases the coaster vehicles replicating the Toretto family’s signature driving moves from the blockbuster global heist films.
The ride will replace the Studio Tour’s representation of the hit franchise films, the now-defunct attraction Fast & Furious Supercharged, which featured Dwyane Johnson and Luke Evans. Although the storyline for the coaster is still under wraps, fans can get a sneak peek at one of the ride vehicles, modeled after Dominic Toretto’s 1970 Dodge Charger, which is currently on display at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is set to open in 2026.
