Our primary goal remains assisting individuals in discovering web content, and with AI Mode, we are simplifying the process of exploration and action. The model’s advanced information retrieval capabilities enable users to express their search queries more accurately, including nuances and constraints, and access relevant web content in various formats.
Testing in Labs
We have been gathering internal feedback and feedback from trusted testers, who have found AI Mode to be extremely helpful, particularly appreciating its speed, quality, and freshness of responses.
We are now expanding our testing through a limited, opt-in experience in Labs. This experimental approach allows us to learn what is most helpful and rapidly improve with feedback from enthusiastic users.
AI Mode is built upon our fundamental quality and ranking systems, and we are also utilizing innovative approaches with the model’s reasoning capabilities to enhance factuality. Our aim is to display an AI-powered response whenever possible, but in cases where we lack high confidence in helpfulness and quality, the response will be a set of web search results. As with any early-stage AI product, we may not always achieve perfection. For instance, while we strive for AI responses in Search to present information objectively based on web content, some responses may unintentionally appear to take on a persona or reflect a particular opinion.
In this next testing phase, we will address these challenges and rapidly make changes to the user experience based on the feedback we receive. We are already working on new capabilities and updates, such as adding more visual responses with images and videos, richer formatting, and new ways to access helpful web content, among other features.
Starting today, we will begin inviting Google One AI Premium subscribers to be the first to try out this experience in Labs. We look forward to receiving feedback and will keep you updated on further developments.
