In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, former top Trump cybersecurity official Chris Krebs stated that he intends to fight against the federal investigation launched against him by President Trump.

During the interview, Krebs announced that he will be stepping down from his position at the cybersecurity firm SentinelOne in order to challenge the federal investigation, which alleges that Krebs “falsely and baselessly denied that the 2020 election was rigged and stolen.” The order also resulted in Krebs being stripped of his security clearance.

Krebs expressed his concerns to the Journal, stating, “It’s about the government pulling its levers to punish dissent, to go after corporate interests and corporate relationships.”

In 2018, Trump appointed Krebs to lead the newly established U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), which is responsible for overseeing federal cybersecurity and election security. However, Trump fired Krebs in November 2020, shortly after Krebs publicly debunked Trump’s false claims of voting irregularities.

According to the Journal, Krebs is now part of a growing list of former government officials, law firms, and universities that are pushing back against the Trump administration’s use of the executive branch to target critics and dissenters.
