If you’re one of the lucky ones who managed to snag tickets to the opening season of Epic Universe, here’s what you need to know to make the most of your visit. Be prepared for some hiccups, as operations at the first theme park to open in 25 years in America are still ironing out the kinks. io9 attended the park as a paying guest before participating in media week to get a sense of what the park will be like for guests visiting this summer.
Rather than getting caught up in the initial rush, it’s a good idea to prioritize your experiences and plan your day accordingly. Consider your interests and head to the most popular attractions early or later in the day to avoid the crowds.
Plan Your Day Strategically

Are you a Universal Monsters fan or a gamer ready for Super Nintendo World? Consider your interests and plan your day accordingly. Be flexible and willing to adjust your plans if wait times become too long. Also, keep in mind the time of day and try to avoid visiting outdoor attractions during the hottest part of the day.
Some attractions, like Harry Potter at the Battle of the Ministry, have already seen wait times of up to five hours. However, these wait times tend to decrease after the morning rush. Consider visiting other popular attractions during this time instead. I opted to visit Donkey Kong Country in Super Nintendo World and ride Mine Cart Madness, which was a delightful experience that lived up to my expectations as a fan of the game.
Be Prepared for Technical Issues

Taking advantage of the morning rush, I visited Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment in Dark Universe, which was a technical marvel with impressive animatronics and a thrilling ride system. However, the ride broke down while I was on it, and we had to wait for about 15 minutes before being let off. Such technical issues are to be expected with new park attractions, and you may be given the option to ride again later.
Mobile Ordering is a Must
One of the drawbacks of Epic Universe is the reliance on mobile ordering for food and drinks. This can be a major battery-drainer, especially when you’re waiting in line or walking around the park. Many dining locations are mobile order only, and you may find yourself ordering outside in the heat while trying to keep your phone charged.
However, some food options are worth the hassle. The mac and cheese cone in the Isle of Berk is a highlight, and you can enjoy it while waiting in line for other attractions. Just be sure to order it with a beverage to make the most of your meal.
Character Meet and Greets Require Patience

The most popular character meet and greets, such as Donkey Kong in Super Nintendo World and Toothless in the Isle of Berk, can have long wait times, especially since they are located outside. Be sure to hydrate and wear sunscreen while waiting, and consider designating one person to wait in line while the rest of your group enjoys other attractions.
Some meet and greets, like the one with the Bride of Frankenstein and Frankenstein’s Monster, are more enjoyable and have shorter wait times. The shaded alleyway in Dark Universe’s Darkmoor village provides a more pleasant waiting experience, and the wait time is generally shorter.
