Epic Games revealed on Wednesday that it has acquired Loci, a platform that utilizes artificial intelligence for the automated tagging of 3D assets. This acquisition aims to simplify the labor-intensive process of tagging and assist in detecting potential intellectual property (IP) violations for creators.
By leveraging computer vision models to comprehend 3D content, Loci enables the automatic tagging of 3D assets, thereby making it easier for users to search, share, and discover content. Given the vast number of assets that creators typically need to manage, this integration is expected to be highly beneficial, as manual tagging can be a very time-consuming process.
The integration of Loci’s technology will not only alleviate the challenges associated with manual tagging but also facilitate the identification of potential IP infringements. In the past, Fortnite has faced issues where numerous players incorporated elements from popular IPs, including Mario Kart and Shrek, into their creations.
The AI-powered technology from Loci will be seamlessly integrated across the Epic ecosystem, including the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and Fab, the marketplace for buying and selling digital assets, to enhance the overall user experience.
