The nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards have been announced, and as expected, Apple TV+’s Severance leads the pack with an impressive 27 nominations, including Best Drama. The streaming platform has another hit on its hands with The Studio, starring Seth Rogen, which garnered 23 nominations.

HBO Max, however, received the most nominations by platform, with a total of 142. This can be attributed to the success of the second season of The Last of Us, which received 16 nominations, as well as The Penguin. Other notable shows, such as The White Lotus, The Pitt, and Hacks, also received multiple nominations, making this the highest number of nominations the outlet has ever received. Although Netflix still holds the record with 160 nominations in 2020.

Andor scored 14 nominations, including one for Best Drama, a notable achievement given that Star Wars shows are not typically recognized in major award categories. Although the first season of Andor was also nominated for Best Drama, it ultimately lost to Succession. Unfortunately, none of the actors from the series received nominations, which is disappointing given the outstanding performances by Diego Luna, Denise Gough, Elizabeth Dulau, and Stellan Skarsgård, among others.

It’s worth noting that sci-fi programs have come a long way, with Andor, The Last of Us, Severance, Paradise, and Black Mirror all receiving significant recognition this year. Fallout also made an impressive showing last year.

The 77th Emmy Awards will be hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze and will air live on CBS on September 14 at 8PM ET. Viewers who have cut the cord will be able to stream the ceremony live and on-demand via Paramount+.
