Video Game Adaptations Continue to Thrive in 2025

As with last year, video game adaptations like Fallout and Arcane remain at the top of the pop culture zeitgeist, and it’s not showing any signs of slowing down in 2025. Now, actor Elliot Page is joining the fray with a TV adaptation of his own for his choice-driven psychological adventure game, Beyond: Two Souls.

Pageboy Acquires Rights to Beyond: Two Souls

According to Deadline, Page’s production company, Pageboy, acquired the rights from French game developer Quantic Dream (Heavy Rain, Detroit: Become Human) to develop the television series. Beyond: Two Souls, originally released on the PlayStation 3, follows a woman named Jodie Holmes raised in a secret government facility due to her unusual connection to a ghost-like entity named Aiden. Using Aiden, Jodie is tasked with completing a series of military espionage missions while also trying to reclaim her independence in her day-to-day life on the run from the facility that shaped her to be a weapon.

Page’s Involvement in the Project

"Filming the game was one of the most challenging and fulfilling acting experiences of my career," Page told the trade. "The story’s rich narrative and emotional depth offer us a fantastic foundation. We want to create a unique vision of the characters and their journeys that resonates with fans and newcomers."

Non-Linear Storytelling Perspective

In keeping with the game’s style, Deadline reports that Page’s Beyond: Two Souls TV series will adopt a similar non-linear storytelling perspective. "This adaptation will honor the game’s legacy while inviting fresh perspectives," Matt Jordan Smith, Pageboy’s head of development and production, told Deadline. "Delving into questions of survival and how split-second decisions can alter not just our lives, but the lives of others, are key to telling the story."

David Cage’s Involvement

Quantic Dream’s controversial director and writer David Cage also cosigned Page’s Beyond: Two Souls TV adaptation. "We are absolutely thrilled to collaborate again with Elliot Page on this project," Cage said. "I was blown away by his acting performance in the game, and I couldn’t think of anyone else to tell this story with the same passion on another medium. Beyond: Two Souls is a very special game for millions of players around the world who were moved by the story of Jodie and Aiden, and their journey in life and beyond. I know that Elliot has all the talent and instinct to make it something really unique on TV."

Early Development Stage

Little is known about whether Page will serve solely as a showrunner for the series or if he will also appear on-screen. At the moment, all we know is that the series is in early development. Fingers crossed, Dafoe will find time in his busy schedule to make Robert Eggers movies and grace the show with his presence.
