The original pair that revived the series is making a comeback to the world of the BBC’s Doctor Who. Billie Piper and Christopher Eccleston will be reprising their roles as companion Rose Tyler and the Ninth Doctor, respectively. However, this time, it will be in an audio drama format.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of their debut in the beloved franchise, twelve full-cast episodes of The Ninth Doctor Adventures will feature the return of the fan-favorite duo. The first episode, “Snare,” written by Tim Foley, takes place between the events of “Father’s Day” and “The Empty Child.” According to Big Finish, the episode’s plot can be summarized as follows:
Kevin has returned to the Powell Estate after being away for a long time, and he’s clearing out his dad’s old flat. The Tylers, his neighbors, are still there, but Rose has a new man in her life – the Doctor. As Kevin is introduced to the Doctor’s world, something ancient starts stirring on the Estate, potentially trapping Kevin once again.
Tim Foley expressed his excitement about writing for the new series, stating, “I was a kid during the wilderness years, and 2005 was a special year for me when Doctor Who actually aired on TV. The Ninth Doctor and Rose continue to hold a special place in my heart. When I was asked to write for this new series, I was overjoyed.” He continued, “It’s great to start with ‘Snare,’ a character-driven episode that takes us back to the Powell Estate, where the family drama from ‘Father’s Day’ still has an impact. We’ll meet one of Rose’s old friends, Kevin, and uncover secrets hidden in his dad’s old flat. You’ll also get to experience Jackie Tyler’s cooking, so be prepared.”
As Foley mentioned, the episode will feature original cast members, including Camille Coduri as Jackie Tyler, Rose’s mother. “Snare” is set to be released on August 25 by Big Finish, and you can learn more about pre-ordering and The Ninth Doctor Adventures here.
