REDMOND, Wash. — March 3, 2025 — Microsoft Corp. announced the launch of Microsoft Dragon Copilot, an innovative AI assistant designed to enhance clinical workflows by combining the trusted natural language voice dictation capabilities of DMO with the ambient listening capabilities of DAX, along with fine-tuned generative AI and healthcare-adapted safeguards. As part of Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare, Dragon Copilot is built on a secure, modern architecture that enables organizations to deliver enhanced experiences and outcomes across various care settings for both providers and patients.

Clinician burnout in the U.S. has dropped from 53% in 2023 to 48% in 2024, partly due to advances in technology. However, the healthcare industry faces a significant workforce shortage, which is projected due to an aging population and persistent burnout. In response, healthcare systems are adopting AI to streamline administrative tasks, enhance care access, and enable faster clinical insights, ultimately improving global healthcare.

Dragon Copilot combines DMO’s speech capabilities, which have facilitated the documentation of billions of patient records, with DAX’s ambient AI technology, assisting over 3 million ambient patient conversations across 600 healthcare organizations in the past month. Organizations have realized significant outcomes, including five minutes saved per encounter,[1] reduced feelings of burnout and fatigue among 70% of clinicians,[2] and a 62% reduction in clinicians considering leaving their organization,[3] while 93% of patients report a better overall experience.[4]

Key features of Dragon Copilot enable clinicians to:

  • Simplify documentation: Utilize multilanguage ambient note creation, automated tasks, multilanguage support, personalized style and formatting, natural language dictation capabilities, speech memos, editing, customized texts, templates, AI prompts, and more within a single user interface.
  • Access information: Conduct general-purpose medical information searches from trusted content sources using embedded AI assistant functionality.
  • Automate tasks: Automate key tasks, such as conversational orders, note and clinical evidence summaries, referral letters, and after-visit summaries, in a centralized workspace.

Clinicians across various care settings, including ambulatory, inpatient, and emergency departments, will benefit from Dragon Copilot’s fast, accurate, secure, and intuitive speech and ambient capabilities for documenting care, navigating EHR workflows, and performing administrative tasks. Dragon Copilot will be available in the U.S. and Canada in May, followed by releases in the U.K., Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Microsoft is committed to bringing a new Dragon experience to other markets currently using Dragon Medical.
