It has been confirmed by TechCrunch that Amy Gleason will serve as the acting administrator of DOGE, which is essentially the leadership team of the Trump administration, comprising advisors and associates of Elon Musk, known as the Department of Government Efficiency.

This announcement, initially reported by Semafor, marks the first time the White House has officially disclosed the person overseeing the team responsible for reducing government costs. Previously, the White House stated that Musk was not officially leading DOGE, leaving the administrator’s role unclear. Notably, Musk holds a position as a senior advisor to the president and a White House employee.

A White House spokesperson has confirmed to TechCrunch that Gleason will be acting as DOGE’s administrator, although no further information was provided regarding the reason for her selection.

While Musk may not hold the official title of DOGE’s head, his actions and public statements from the White House suggest that he plays a significant role in the development and operation of DOGE, with the open support of President Trump.

As indicated on her LinkedIn profile, which was reviewed by TechCrunch, Gleason began working at the U.S. Digital Service in January 2025, where she is listed as a “senior advisor.” Prior to this, Gleason worked as a consultant and held positions in the private sector, including serving as the chief product officer at Russell Street Ventures from December 2021 to November 2024. Additionally, her LinkedIn profile shows that she previously worked as a digital services expert at the U.S. Digital Service from October 2018 to December 2021.

DOGE was established through an executive order signed by President Trump on January 20, which renamed the U.S. Digital Service to DOGE and appointed teams of “special government employees” across various federal agencies.

As specified in the executive order, Gleason, as acting administrator, will report to the White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles.

Since DOGE’s establishment, Musk’s associates, many of whom have ties to his private businesses, have been granted broad access to government systems and sensitive datasets, including the personal information of millions of Americans.
