Video game-based movies have gained immense popularity in recent years, as evident from the impressive box office returns of A Minecraft Movie . This surge in popularity has led to the announcement of more films based on popular video games, including a movie adaptation of Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding. The news of this adaptation first broke in 2022, , and now the project has a writer and director on board.

The production company A24, which is financing the film, , has announced that Michael Sarnoski will be writing and directing the movie. Although Sarnoski may not be a household name, he has an impressive portfolio, having co-written and directed A Quiet Place: Day One and Pig, a unique film starring Nicolas Cage.

A24 has revealed that the movie will delve into the “catastrophic series of events that blurred the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead,” which ultimately led to the fragmented society depicted in the game. While there is no casting information available yet, it is hoped that Norman Reedus will be involved in the project in some capacity. A cameo appearance by Conan O’Brien would also be a welcome addition.

Kojima Productions is actively involved in the development of the movie, although a release date has not been announced as filming has not yet commenced.

Furthermore, recent Death Stranding news includes the upcoming release of the video game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on June 26, which will be accompanied by a worldwide concert tour and, surprisingly, a luxury watch.
