On Monday, Ukrzaliznytsia, Ukraine’s state-owned railway operator, announced that it had fallen victim to a large-scale cyberattack.

According to a statement on the railway operator’s official Telegram channel, the cyberattack impacted online ticket sales, including those made through the mobile app, although train operations remained unaffected. You can find more information on the railway operator’s official Telegram channel.

Daryna Antoniuk, a Ukraine-based journalist, reported on the disruption for The Record from Kyiv’s central station. She noted that the capital’s main railway station was experiencing unusual crowding on Monday morning, with dozens of people waiting in long lines to purchase tickets for domestic and international travel.

In its statement, Ukrzaliznytsia (as translated by machine) said: “The key thing the enemy was unable to accomplish was disrupting train traffic, which remains stable and operates without delays. All operational processes related to traffic have been set up in a backup format.”

The operator advised customers that, as a last resort, if they were unable to purchase tickets through the ticket office, they could proceed directly to the train to do so.
