It appears that DC Studios may have found its ideal candidate for the role of Sgt. Rock in the form of Colin Farrell, who is currently enjoying the acclaim for his portrayal of another DC character in The Penguin. Farrell is reportedly in consideration for the role of Sgt. Rock, a film that will be directed by Luca Guadagnino, known for his work on Challengers.

Deadline has reported on the potential casting, addressing the question that may be on everyone’s mind: whether Farrell’s dual roles as Sgt. Rock and the Penguin would pose a conflict. However, it has been clarified that Sgt. Rock will be part of the DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran, while the Penguin is part of Matt Reeves’ Epic Crime Saga, indicating that these two DC worlds will remain separate. This news effectively rules out the possibility of Robert Pattinson being the new DC Batman, as previously speculated.

The project, Sgt. Rock, was a pleasant surprise for Gunn and Safran, who earlier this year expressed their enthusiasm for Guadagnino and Challengers writer Justin Kuritzkes’ unique take on the story. According to Safran, “[Guadagnino and Kuritzkes] had a really interesting take on how to tell this story within the DCU,” and the result is “a really compelling story about heroism in a time of armed conflict…. we love the idea of being able to tell something that, it’s a war movie.”‘

Initial rumors suggested that Daniel Craig would play the role, but Gunn and Safran clarified that he was never officially in talks. In contrast, Farrell’s potential involvement appears more concrete, pending his availability amidst his busy schedule. io9 has reached out to DC Studios for comment and will provide updates if and when a response is received.
