The productivity platform ClickUp has introduced a revamped calendar feature, which brings together tasks, documents, conversations, and meetings in a single location. Notably, this new calendar includes an AI-powered meeting notetaker and AI-driven time blocking for tasks, setting it apart from its predecessors.
ClickUp previously offered a calendar product, but its primary focus was on team management and scheduling. However, with the acquisition of calendar startup Hypercal last year, backed by prominent investors such as a16z and Tiger Global, the company has incorporated elements of this acquisition into its new calendar product, shifting its emphasis towards personal productivity in the workplace.
By placing tasks at the forefront, users can now add tasks to a queue, and the calendar will automatically allocate time slots based on their schedule. The calendar also has the capability to dynamically adjust due dates in response to changes in schedule and priority levels. Additionally, users have the flexibility to manually drag and drop tasks into the calendar view and modify pre-assigned priority levels as needed.
ClickUp is also launching an AI-powered notetaker that can join meetings, similar to tools like Read AI, Zoom’s AI assistant, Circleback, Granola, and Otter. This AI tool not only takes structured notes and transcribes meetings but also automatically assigns action items and tasks to teammates. According to a company survey, 71% of respondents expressed comfort in sending a proxy or AI assistant to a meeting on their behalf.

ClickUp’s founder and CEO, Zeb Evans, explained to TechCrunch that the company trains its AI tool to recognize various signals from a person’s integrations, such as a GitHub assignee, and fine-tunes the prioritization algorithm accordingly.
Furthermore, an AI assistant is available to answer questions regarding tasks, documents, schedules, and meeting notes and transcripts. Users can even schedule meetings by describing them to the AI assistant, enhancing the platform’s usability and efficiency.
ClickUp aims to establish itself as an all-in-one productivity platform, building upon its existing task and project management capabilities by incorporating meeting note-taking and AI-powered scheduling. This move is part of a broader trend, as other platforms in the productivity space, such as Read AI and Atlassian’s Trello, expand their offerings to cater more effectively to individual workers. For instance, Read AI recently introduced a search copilot to enable cross-platform search and discovery.

According to Evans, the company’s strategy revolves around converging various tools into a single platform, which he believes will give ClickUp an edge over specialized tools. This approach reflects the company’s vision of a future where all software converges, facilitating more streamlined and integrated work management and collaboration.
“Our belief is that all software will converge in the future, and this has been our guiding principle since ClickUp’s inception. We anticipate that work management and collaboration categories will merge, and our product is designed with this convergence in mind. Unlike other platforms, our product does not consist of separate apps; it operates as a unified entity,” Evans explained.
