America’s Terrifying Spy Agency is Done with DEI

We have good news for all you freedom-loving patriots out there: our long national nightmare is finally coming to an end. The woke mindset that had taken hold is losing its grip, and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) will no longer be burdened by the oppressive diversity, equity, and inclusion training videos. In short, a new era is unfolding for the country.

The CIA is planning its most significant "mass firing" in over 50 years, according to the New York Times, with a large number of terminations aimed at officers who work on "recruiting and diversity issues." The newspaper notes that 51 officers working in diversity and recruiting are currently having their positions reviewed, although it is unclear whether the terminations will actually occur. These positions seem to have been converted from overseas agent recruitment roles into domestic DEI recruitment roles during the Biden administration, according to statements from sources interviewed by the paper. If the officers are fired, it would be one of the largest mass firings in the agency’s history, as stated by the Times.

The current administration is attempting to dismantle diversity programs across the federal government, and the CIA’s efforts to reduce its DEI activities align with this broader mission.

I must note that the idea of the CIA being "de-woke-ified" is somewhat humorous. The reality is that the CIA, a secretive organization known for its global operations and significant impact, was never truly "woke" to begin with.

It is true that the agency released a notable recruitment video a couple of years ago, which many people likely remember. The video was quite something and featured a CIA officer saying things like: "I am a cisgender millennial, who has been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder," and "I am intersectional, but my existence is not a box-checking exercise," while also mentioning her love of Zora Neale Hurston and her ability to change diapers.

It would have been intriguing to see a follow-up video discussing the complexities of this bomb used by the agency, which is designed to "slice and dice" its victims. What insights might Zora Neale Hurston have offered on that topic?

The recruitment video, while ridiculous, raises questions about its true intent. Its overt absurdity makes one wonder whether it was genuinely an effort to attract diverse hires or if it was meant to provoke and radicalize certain groups, like midwestern MAGA types, who felt the video was evidence of their country being overrun by liberal ideologies. Unfortunately, the CIA’s secretive nature means we may never know the true purpose behind the video.

Despite the CIA’s brief flirtation with diversity and inclusion optics, news stories about the agency’s actual staffing and behavior reveal a different reality. An internal study from 2015 showed that nearly 90% of the agency’s top ranks were white men. Moreover, these individuals have been involved in significant misconduct, including a "deep-rooted cultural problem" of sexual assault and harassment at the agency, as reported last October.
