According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Broadcom and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) are individually investigating potential deals to acquire parts of Intel.

It is reported that Broadcom is contemplating the acquisition of Intel’s chip design and marketing segments, with plans to seek a partner to manage the company’s manufacturing operations. On the other hand, TSMC is allegedly exploring the possibility of gaining control over some or all of Intel’s chip manufacturing plants, potentially through a consortium of investors.

As stated by The Wall Street Journal, all discussions regarding these potential deals are still in the preliminary stages and have not been formally presented to Intel. Notably, TSMC’s pursuit of a deal is reportedly being encouraged by the administration of President Donald Trump. However, a White House official has expressed that the administration is unlikely to support any arrangement that would result in a foreign entity gaining control over Intel’s manufacturing facilities.

Intel’s recent struggles appear to have made it a target for acquisition by its rivals in the chip manufacturing industry. In September, The Journal reported that Qualcomm had approached Intel with a potential takeover bid, as noted in a related article and also mentioned in the New York Times and TechCrunch.
