A Blade Runner video game, titled Time to Live, was previously in development but was never officially announced, and it appears that the project is no longer in the works. Only a few details remain about what could have been.

According to Insider Gaming, the game was being developed by Supermassive Games, the studio behind Until Dawn. The game was reportedly a character-driven action-adventure title where players would take on the role of So-Lange, the last remaining Blade Runner in 2065, who has outlived their typical lifespan.

Pre-production is said to have begun in late 2024, with several team members from The Quarry (2023) involved. If the game had proceeded to full production, it was planned for release in fall 2027 on PC and current and next-generation consoles. Documents obtained by the outlet describe gameplay as a mix of stealth, action, exploration, and investigation, similar to Cyberpunk 2077 or the Deus Ex series.

What apparently led to the game’s demise was Alcon Entertainment, the owner of the Blade Runner IP, which canceled the project late last year without providing a specific reason. When asked, Supermassive Games stated that it was “unable to comment.” After reaching out to both Supermassive and Alcon, the latter acknowledged discussions of a Blade Runner project in the past year that “did not proceed for business reasons.”

To date, there have been three Blade Runner video games. The first, released in 1985, was a shoot-em-up loosely based on the film, while the 1997 title was a point-and-click adventure game. More recently, in 2018, Seismic Games released Revelations, a VR title. A few years ago, Annapurna Interactive announced it was developing Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, its first in-house game, but the project’s status remains uncertain following the developer’s internal collapse in late 2024.

Regardless of the existence of Time to Live, the Blade Runner franchise has been expanding over the past few years. In addition to the games, Prime Video is producing an upcoming TV series starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer.
