The anticipated teasers from the weekend have finally led to the unveiling of the full first look at Black Phone 2 during Blumhouse’s CCPX panel. As expected, the sequel promises to deliver an intense experience, especially for those who have been waiting to see Ethan Hawke’s character, the Grabber, in a chilling new light – this time, ice skating towards his next victim with murderous intentions.

The story picks up years after the events of the first film, with Finney (Mason Thames) and Gwen (Madeline McGraw) Blake now teenagers facing another harsh Colorado winter. However, their lives take an ominous turn when Gwen starts having dreams about the Grabber’s lair and the tragic fate of three young boys at Alpine Lake Youth Camp. The Grabber, despite being dead, manages to contact the teens through a mysterious black payphone near the camp, threatening to kill them either in their dreams or in reality.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director and co-writer Scott Derrickson described Black Phone 2 as a ghost story, similar to its predecessor, but with a significant twist: the ghost is the antagonist. With Finney and Gwen now in high school, Derrickson and co-writer C. Robert Cargill aimed to increase the intensity of the film, resulting in a more violent, scary, and graphic experience.

Black Phone 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on October 17, featuring an ensemble cast including Jeremy Davies, Anna Lore, Arianna Rivas, Miguel Mora, and Demián Bichir.
