The seventh season of Black Mirror is set to premiere on Netflix on April 10, and judging by its first trailer, it appears to be revisiting the concepts and episodes that have come to define the series.

The trailer features many of the stars who were previously announced to be in the new episodes, including Paul Giamatti, Issa Rae, and Peter Capaldi. Additionally, there is clear evidence that Season 7 will continue storylines that showrunner Charlie Brooker has previously promised to revisit, notably the episode “USS Callister,” which revolves around a group of startup employees trapped in a Star Trek-inspired simulation by their boss.

Furthermore, the trailer reveals some surprises, including one of the six new episodes that seems to return to the world of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the interactive Black Mirror episode that Netflix released in 2018, before abandoning interactive movies in 2024. The trailer also suggests that fundamental Black Mirror concepts, such as “thinking of the human brain as a computer,” will be present in the new season.

According to Brooker, this season can be described as “a little bit OG Black Mirror” and “back to basics in many ways,” which may be reassuring for fans who believe he can recapture the novelty and meanness of the show’s UK run. The series last aired on Netflix in 2023, with a set of episodes that were inconsistent in terms of quality. However, it remains to be seen whether Season 7 will be different, and fans will have to wait until Black Mirror returns on April 10 to find out for sure. Brooker describes this season in more detail, providing a glimpse into what fans can expect.
