Enthusiasts of the long-standing Predator franchise were thrilled to learn that Dan Trachtenberg, the director of 2022’s Prey, which injected new life into the series, would be helming not one, but two upcoming films. These include the live-action adventure thriller Predator: Badlands, as well as an previously unknown animated feature film.

Although the Disney presentation at CinemaCon today did not provide any updates on the animated film, more information has been revealed about Predator: Badlands. In addition to featuring creatures that are larger, more grotesque, and equipped with advanced technology than any previously seen in the franchise, Badlands poses an intriguing question: what if the Predator, a ruthless intergalactic hunter, were actually the hero?

“An unprecedented event occurs in this film,” stated Elle Fanning, star of Badlands, to the CinemaCon audience. “My character forms an alliance with the Predator, and you see him in a new light.”

The first footage presented was as follows:

A lair filled with skulls, with Elle Fanning’s voiceover saying, “I didn’t think you survived.” The scene takes place on an alien planet, with vast, barren landscapes and a spaceship entering the frame.

The trailer declared, “The deadliest hunter returns to the big screen.” The Predator is shown walking on a mountain, while Fanning’s character exhibits white eyes that seem to roll back into her head. Every aspect of the planet, including the flora and fauna, appears alien.

The trailer referred to this planet as “a planet of hurt,” and depicted the Predator being hunted. The creatures on this planet are larger and more terrifying than the Predators, prompting Fanning’s character to say, “You’re hunting something that can’t be killed.”

The main Predator character is shown standing mid-frame, with his hair pulled back into a ponytail-like style, and exhibiting the classic snarl with all four fangs. The object of his snarl is then revealed: a massive, colossal beast that begins to jump into the frame.

Predator: Badlands is scheduled to hit theaters on November 7.
