Google has recently wrapped up its I/O event, where the company showcased the future of enhanced driving experiences for Android Auto users and unveiled several new and exciting features that are expected to arrive in future updates. One of the notable announcements is the introduction of a revamped multimedia experience on Android Auto.

The Android Auto platform is set to regain its light theme after a long hiatus. Google is planning a significant makeover for Android Auto, focusing on improving the user experience when interacting with multimedia apps.

Android Auto Media features

Essentially, media apps have traditionally featured a simple yet elegant design, which is about to change. Firstly, Google revealed that media apps will now be organized within a specific layout called SectionedItemTemplate, where apps are divided into separate sections, including Recent Search and a list of Albums.

Meanwhile, the next change introduces a new MediaPlaybackTemplate designed for developers, which enables them to make changes to the media player UI, such as repositioning media controls or customizing their order.

Beyond this, another significant change for developers is the update to Android Auto’s Car App Library, allowing them to enhance the library’s design and usability to provide a rich and convenient user experience out of the box. Although Google has not specified a timeline for the feature, it has confirmed that the change will initially roll out to Amazon Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music.

Additionally, aside from the light theme, Google is also working on incorporating climate controls and enabling the ability to play Android games when the vehicle is parked, along with other enhancements. More updates and changes are expected to arrive on Android Auto in the future.
