Samsung is poised to extend Android 15 to its older Galaxy devices, while Google has confirmed that it is on schedule to release Android 16 in June.

Recently, the Korean tech giant officially announced that it will be expanding the Android 15-based One UI 7 beta program to include the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip, as well as the Galaxy S23 series and Galaxy Tab S10 series, with a stable version expected to be released next month, in April.

While Samsung is still in the process of releasing Android 15, Google is nearing the release of Android 16, slated for June. According to a report from Android Police, Sameer Samat, Google’s President of the Android Ecosystem, stated: “So far, so good. I’ve never had a release where at this point the bug count was where I wanted it to be, but the team is working really hard, and we’re excited about getting it there.”

A recent report suggested that Samsung plans to skip the One UI 7.1 and One UI 7.1.1 iterations and will instead proceed directly to One UI 8 after the release of One UI 7. If this report proves accurate, it will be crucial for the company to manage the timeline for One UI 8, which will be based on Android 16.

With Google on track to release Android 16, this may prompt Samsung to expedite the rollout of One UI 8, potentially sooner than previous UI versions. However, it remains to be seen whether the company will release One UI 8 early or take a more measured approach, similar to the current One UI 7 version.
