Amanda Scales, the former xAI HR executive who played a key role in Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency initiative during her tenure at the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, has rejoined xAI, as reported by The New York Times.
Prior to her recent return, Scales was responsible for talent acquisition at xAI. As of April, she has resumed her work on the talent side of the company, according to her LinkedIn profile. Her professional background also includes stints in human resources and talent acquisition at Human Capital, a San Francisco-based VC firm, and at Uber.
Scales’ return to xAI coincides with Elon Musk’s apparent decision to scale back his involvement with DOGE. Musk has become increasingly absent from Washington, according to The New York Times. In a recent statement to Wall Street analysts, Musk expressed his intention to dedicate less time to politics and more to his business ventures, including Tesla.
The shift in focus comes at a time when Tesla’s sales have been struggling, partly due to Musk’s diversion of time and resources to DOGE. Recently, a group of employees voiced their concerns by publishing an open letter advocating for his removal as CEO.
