Our approach is centered around establishing a robust foundation of AI literacy for all individuals. The support provided by Google.org for the ASEAN Foundation’s launch of the AI Ready ASEAN initiative is a key aspect of this commitment. Since its inception in October 2024, this regional program has empowered over 800,000 young individuals, educators, and parents with essential AI literacy skills. Furthermore, the initiative’s newly introduced online platform, AI Class ASEAN, which was launched just two months ago, is already serving over 14,000 users, thereby expanding access to vital training in a self-paced format.

The adoption of digital technologies must be accompanied by a focus on safety and wellbeing. To this end, Google.org is allocating US$5 million to promote youth digital wellbeing in Southeast Asia. This investment will support leading nonprofit organizations in providing teenagers, parents, and teachers with practical resources and tools to foster healthy, positive relationships with technology.

Google is also providing targeted support for educational institutions and educators. The Gemini Academy has trained over 290,000 teachers across Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines, enabling them to integrate AI tools into their teaching practices. Additionally, to ensure the next generation is adequately prepared, we have made our Gemini AI Pro Plan available free of charge for 12 months to students aged 18 and above throughout the region.

Continuing the AI journey together

Our dedication to ensuring that everyone can benefit from technological advancements is not a new endeavor.

Since 2020, Google.org has provided social impact organizations in Southeast Asia with over $40 million in cash donations, $80 million in product donations, and 20,000 hours of volunteer work by Google employees with their technical expertise. These efforts have helped reach nearly 4 million learners across Southeast Asia, including equipping youth, educators, and MSMEs with the skills necessary to improve digital literacy, cybersecurity, and AI knowledge.
