For fans of the Avatar franchise, this is an exciting time, with Nickelodeon’s new animated series Avatar: Seven Havens on the horizon, as well as Netflix’s live-action series, which has been renewed for a second and third season. The third component of the current Avatar media lineup is a trilogy of animated feature films from Nick, with the latest news being the addition of Steven Yeun (Invincible, Mickey 17) to the voice cast.

Although Steven Yeun has previously voiced Avatar Wan, the first Avatar, in The Legend of Korra, it’s unclear at this point which character he will play in the new film. According to Variety, which broke the news, “it’s not yet clear which of the Four Nations Yeun may hail from, as character details are being kept under wraps.”

The movie, directed by Lauren Montgomery and co-directed by William Mata, is based on the series Avatar: The Last Airbender, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It will focus on the character of Aang, suggesting that it will take place between The Last Airbender and Korra.

While Yeun’s character is still unknown, it was announced last year that Dave Bautista will voice a villain, and the main cast includes Eric Nam as Aang, Dionne Quan as Toph, Jessica Matten as Katara, and Román Zaragoza as Sokka.

The movie, which is currently untitled, was initially scheduled for release this year but will now hit theaters on January 30, 2026.
