The critically acclaimed RPG Disco Elysium, which was released in 2019 and garnered numerous awards for its intelligent storytelling and writing, is set to be reimagined exclusively for Android devices later this year. The mobile version is expected to launch in the summer of 2025.
Based on the trailer and screenshots shared today, the new format appears to resemble a visual novel app more than a traditional RPG. ZA/UM, the company behind the game, has announced that the first two chapters will be available for free, and the full, ad-free game can be unlocked with a one-time payment.
According to ZA/UM studio head Denis Havel, “We aim to captivate the TikTok user with short, engaging bursts of story, art, and audio, ultimately creating a new and deeply engaging form of entertainment.”
It’s worth noting that many of the original Disco Elysium creators are no longer with ZA/UM. In 2022, the company’s new leadership fired creator Robert Kurvitz, art director Aleksander Rostov, and writer Helen Hindpere, and the parties have been embroiled in lawsuits since the game’s international success. The former team members have gone on to establish new studios, and ZA/UM has announced that it is working on a new game.
