Introduction to Meta’s New Incentive
Meta has introduced a new incentive to encourage users to create and share photos and videos on Facebook. This initiative allows creators participating in Facebook’s Content Monetization program to earn money from views on their Facebook Stories.
How the Incentive Works
Given that users can easily share their photos and videos posted to their Stories, this presents a straightforward way to earn additional income from content shared on Facebook. The ability to monetize Stories is available worldwide, according to Meta, though it is performance-based and requires Stories to be public. Creators not yet part of the Content Monetization program can apply for consideration on Meta’s website.
Meta’s Strategy to Attract Creators
This new payment option is part of Meta’s ongoing efforts to lure creators into posting content on Facebook over other platforms like Instagram or competing apps. Earlier in January, Meta launched a "breakthrough bonus program," offering creators an extra $5,000 for posting a specified amount of photos and videos on Instagram and Facebook, provided they had an existing presence on another social media platform.
Context and Timing of the Program
The timing of the program suggests Meta’s interest in attracting creators who might lose access to TikTok. Although the app has received a temporary reprieve thanks to the Trump administration’s intervention, Meta is still keen to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding TikTok’s future. By offering incentives, Meta aims to increase its appeal to creators and expand its user base.
