Under Donald Trump’s presidency, Steve Bannon clearly outlined the administration’s strategy for achieving its goals, which can be summarized as “inundating the system with misinformation.” The underlying principle is straightforward: overwhelm the public with as much false or misleading information as possible, exploiting the limited capacity for attention, outrage, and resistance, and secure victories while others are distracted.

It is evident that this approach has intensified significantly during the initial months of Trump’s second term, largely facilitated by Trump supporter Elon Musk, who has transformed Twitter into a platform inundated with distractions, false information, and confusion. In an environment that should be rich in accurate and reliable information, it has become increasingly challenging to distinguish between credible and false reports. Fortunately, some diligent individuals are closely monitoring the situation to prevent the general public from falling prey to this high-stakes deception.

Among these efforts is the Project 2025 Tracker, initially started as a spreadsheet by two Reddit users. This project has expanded into a comprehensive resource aimed at tracking the Trump administration’s progress in implementing the plans outlined in Project 2025, a 900-page blueprint designed to consolidate executive power and reshape the government in alignment with a right-wing Christian Nationalist agenda.

The Project 2025 Tracker breaks down the policy recommendations from the Heritage Foundation’s guiding document, identifying them as administration goals and monitoring progress in achieving these objectives. These goals are linked to specific government agencies and can be searched in the project’s database, or one can track the overall progress of the administration’s efforts. So far, the administration has made significant strides, with Project 2025 Tracker estimating that nearly 40% of the goals established by Project 2025 have already been accomplished.

In response to Musk’s attempts to flood the information zone, journalist Judd Legum from Popular Information and Musk Watch has introduced a new project called DOGE Tracker, an audit of the pseudo-agency claiming to audit the federal government but consistently revising its numbers. The DOGE Tracker operates on a simple premise: do not take Elon Musk’s claims at face value. Instead, the project examines DOGE’s claimed savings, the actual itemized cuts documented by DOGE, and verifiable canceled funding.

As expected, these numbers do not add up. According to DOGE Tracker, as of March 12, 2025, the department claims to have achieved $105 billion in savings, but only $29.9 billion of these savings are documented, and merely $8.6 billion can be verified. This indicates that Musk and his team have overstated their savings by approximately 92%.

We are merely two months into this iteration of the Trump presidency, and the pace is not expected to slow down. The public will continue to be flooded with misinformation. Utilize these tools to filter out the false information and focus on what truly matters.
