Samsung’s Galaxy watches may soon be able to stay active while putting down the wrist with an upcoming One UI watch update, specifically One UI 6.5 Watch.
Recently, Google introduced the latest Wear OS 5.1 update for its Pixel smartwatches. Samsung’s Galaxy watches, which currently run One UI 6 Watch, are expected to experience the features of this new version in the future.
Currently, when an app is opened on a Galaxy smartwatch and not used for a while, it forces the app to go to the background, and the watch face takes over. This happens because these apps do not support Always-On Display (AOD).
Google Enhances AOD Features in Wear OS 5.1 for a More Seamless Experience
With the latest Android 15-based Wear OS 5.1 update, as reported by 9To5Google, Samsung’s Galaxy Watches may soon be able to keep apps active even when the user is not interacting with them or has put their wrist down. This is made possible by a new toggle in the Developer options called Force Global AOD Experience.

The latest version adds a new toggle in the Developer options, allowing apps that do not support AOD to remain active even when not in use. This feature may be included in Samsung’s upcoming One UI Watch update.

Given the limited information available, it’s difficult to predict when Samsung will release its upcoming One UI Watch update. Google’s Pixel smartwatches are already receiving the Wear OS 5.1 update.
