At the recent SXSW panel, titled “The Future of Worldbuilding,” Disney provided a new glimpse into its upcoming theme park attraction centered around the Mandalorian and Grogu. The ride is set to launch on May 22, 2026, coinciding with the release of the two characters on the big screen.

The revamped version of Smuggler’s Run will be featured at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. This marks the first significant update to the attraction since the introduction of Rise of the Resistance in 2019. The concept art showcased during the panel includes the Razor Crest and Millennium Falcon approaching Cloud City, a Tatooine Sand Crawler, and remnants of the Death Star floating in space. Although Imagineers drew inspiration from scenes in the movie, Favreau stated that the update will not retell the film’s story. Instead, he described it as “participating in something that’s happening just off-camera from what you see.”

In addition to the new Mandalorian mission, Disneyland will introduce BDX droids to its Tokyo and Paris locations, as well as Walt Disney World. These droids will be maintained by Otto, the Anzellan character last seen in Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian, and will also appear in the upcoming Mandalorian & Grogu movie. The concept art and droids can be viewed below.

Imagineer Asa Kalama emphasized the importance of collaboration within Disney, stating, “Opening an attraction and a massive movie on the same day wouldn’t be possible without the relationships we have inside Disney. Jon and Dave [Filoni] have shared their story with us, and now we’ve all worked together to come up with a new mission for Smugglers Run that plays into this narrative.”

Both The Mandalorian & Grogu and the Mandalorian mission for Smuggler’s Run are scheduled to debut on May 22, 2026. With Star Wars Celebration taking place next month, it is likely that we will see footage from both the film and the ride.
