Introduction to Frost Fatales
Games Done Quick’s upcoming week-long charity speedrunning event, Frost Fatales, is set to kick off this weekend, running from March 9 to 16. This event aims to raise money for the nonprofit National Women’s Law Center, an organization dedicated to fighting for gender justice in issues central to the lives of women and girls.
Background and History
Frost Fatales is the winter installment of the pair of events organized by GDQ’s Frame Fatales speedrunning community, with its summer counterpart being Flame Fatales. Last year’s Frost Fatales event successfully raised $155,000 for the same nonprofit. Since the first Frame Fatales event in 2019, these biannual speedruns have collectively raised over $1 million for charity.
Event Highlights
The festivities begin with a run of the charmingly punishing Cuphead at 1 PM ET on Sunday, immediately followed by Super Mario Odyssey just an hour later. Other notable runs throughout the week include the original Legend of Zelda on Sunday, the Wii reboot of Punch-Out!! on Monday, a "girl squad" three-way race in Final Fantasy X-2 on Wednesday, and a race to defeat Ganon in Breath of the Wild on Saturday. The week concludes with a one-handed speedrun of the indie platforming classic Celeste later that night.
Schedule and Streaming
For the full lineup of games, you can check out GDQ’s schedule. The week-long event will stream exclusively on the GDQ Twitch channel, starting with the must-see Cuphead run at 1 PM ET on Sunday.
